Samuel L. Clemens letters to Emily Severance, 1867-1869.

Consists of two autograph letters signed by Samuel L. Clemens to "Mrs. Severance" (Emily Severance) of Cleveland, Ohio. The first is dated 24 December [1867] from Washington and discusses the death of their mutual friend Mary Mason Fairbanks' mother. The second is dated 27 October [1869] from Elmira, New York, and includes comments on Twain's recently published book (The Innocents Abroad, or, The New Pilgrims' Progress).
